Week 1: 2 January – 9 January
For the first rewirement activity for the course The Science of Well-Being, I got explore my strengths and practice at least one of them for each day. I took this survey from VIA Institute (again, this is not sponsored), and I found out that my top 5 strengths are as follows:

Upon reading the list, I was utterly confused thinking of how I can consciously practise the following in day. It seems to me that these are qualities that I just have, and I didn’t know how to write something in each category as it felt like I’m boasting or something (Okay, humility is done, I guess). Regardless, here is what happened in the first week of the course.
Teamwork
- On each day of the week, I worked with my parents in taking care of the cats and doing household chores.
- On Thursday, I researched and sent helpful references for the transcription project I’m working on with my colleagues.
- On Saturday, I supported my friend in getting his new phone and getting his facial treatment by being with him the entire day. He also supported me in buying new clothes as part of our annual after-christmas shopping spree!
Zest
- On Wednesday, I cut half of my hair because I wanted to explore what other hairstyles look good on me without having to use too much conditioner and spending too much time shampooing. I put here because I was cutting my own hair (yes, I’ve been doing so for at least 7 years) with much excitement! Most people would discourage me from cutting my long hair, but I take it as a courage to do it voluntarily.
- On Thursday, I heard back from a company I applied for and on Sunday (which is today), I did some research and prepared for possible questions.
- On Saturday, I was talking to my close friend about other career possibilities, and we both got excited of the thought that the world is our oyster, with that… I sent more applications the next day.
Humor
It’s impossible to list down all the things I did and said that make my friends laugh, but here are some of the many things that made me laugh this week:
- People thought I was my best friend’s niece despite being older than him.
- I can wear the SM eco bag as a duster, it’s so much bigger than my upper body.
- That diss track task from Taskmaster NZ S2 (To be honest, I’ve been super obsessed by Taskmaster for more than a year now. I need help.)
Hope
- In connection with item 2 on Zest, I prepared for an upcoming interview for tomorrow in hopes that it goes well.
- Starting these series of articles hoping it’ll help me maximise the experience of the course.
- On Monday, I donated some money to the family of one of my schoolmates back in college as they are going through some rough times.
Humility
I still do not know how to write anything under this…
Thoughts:
Knowing my strengths gave an added level of understanding myself. I remember I wrote an entry in my journal about the positive effects of gratitude and being appreciated for the things that you are. Thanks to this list, I know where in myself can I seek life.
